What next with romance.exe + American Sunset info
July 10, 2026ROMANCE.EXE
After the release of AURORA BOREALIS, CHESTNUT can finally return to romance.exe.
Our first priority is to update all existing assets to match our new visual style. While the original artwork still holds up well, we've taken the overall quality to an entirely new level.
How do we do that? We're taking the original render from DAZ 3D, which is always a base, and then we're enhancing it with our AI tools. So we're NOT USING AI to generate our static images - we're using AI ONLY in postprocessing.
I want to be completely clear here - we've heard your voice about character consistency, and we're taking extra care about that aspect. We have the tools for that, so we can promise that everything will look as it should.
This also means re-rendering every animation from scratch, but it's a task I'm happy to take on if it helps us deliver the best possible visual experience.
We're also introducing a more interactive gameplay structure. You'll be able to explore the city using a new interactive map, travel between locations, meet characters, and progress through quests in a much more immersive way.
As part of these improvements, we'll also plan to update the game demo. The new version will include both Episode 1 and Episode 2, making it roughly twice as long as the original demo. It's still hard to say when we'll do this because AMERICAN SUNSET is our priority right now.
There's one more important change regarding development. We've found it difficult to provide regular episodic updates while working on other projects simultaneously. Because of that, we've decided to move away from the episodic release model. Instead, we'll focus on completing the entire game before releasing it, just as we do with all of our other titles. We believe this approach will allow us to deliver a more polished and consistent experience from start to finish.
Please WISHLIST our game on STEAM in order to help us promote it and get a notification when the game is ready.
AMERICAN SUNSET
Next week, we'll be showcasing the first finalized versions of the enhanced images and animations that will be added to the game. And wow! When you see the difference in quality...
A huge thank you to everyone who voted in the poll or left a comment. Almost three times as many players voted Yes as No (73% vs. 27%), and we're carefully reading every piece of feedback to identify the areas we should prioritize.
To help accelerate the enhancement process while maintaining the highest possible quality, I've assigned another visual artist to the project. And don't worry, Tracy will still be Tracy, and Lisa will keep her Canadian passport. No counterfeits, no impostors.
We'll also be unveiling a new type of animation that represents a significant leap forward compared to what you saw in FRENCH CONFESSIONS and the base version of HOROS: MAGNIFICA.

That’s probably smart to do it one release… i really liked romance.exe so I cant wait to play it again..
Assuming serena will be using the new type of animation and post processing? And demo this year or is that dead now? 🙁
Thanks for understanding our concerns about AI rendering. Its good to know our voices are being heard.
Keep up the great work!
I like that you experimented with episodic releases, and I like that you identified that it wasn’t a good fit for your team.
Kudos for taking a risk, and then changing course when the risk wasn’t paying the dividends you hoped to achieve. While I always like the idea of a constant stream of content for my favorite releases, if that workflow takes away from what makes them my favorite releases, then I’d much rather have you guys work in a way that lets you achieve your vision with the highest level of quality.
